bad news

They exist already. They are called plants and algae. make a mechanical one that can do what the one does to Mars on "Total Recall" and you will go down with the Wright Bros.- until it starts to snow in Palm Springs. Then you are toast.

lol. too funny.
wonder what ecosystem is next. finace told me something the other day along the lines of
If the bees die off and become extinct, humans follow in x years...

didnt pay attention to her lol. wonder if that true, i can see the reasoning behind it.

Do some research? Funny. I've taken a hell of a lot of classes on this stuff and been an environmentalist since I was a kid. I love reading anything I can about this stuff. The difference between you and me is that you are one sided only, that it does exist. You'll laugh but i'm probably more open minded on this subject. I'm on the opposite side, but willing to switch once significant proof is shown. I just need proof... I'm just a science person looking for pure truth. Sure any idiot can show why levels of this and that and heat go up. But there's a billion things that can cause that and it doesn't mean the planet can't heal itself.

Just to be clear I'm not saying anything bad about you :) ... too me this is just a friendly argument. We just have a very big difference in that you are relying on opinion and i wanna see fact. Plain and simple.

Ok let's just cover some basic biology/chemistry...

CO2 enters a body of water. CO2 lowers PH of water. Invertabrates and corals that use calcium as shells or skeletons dissolve. Fish have nothing to eat. Fish die. Something like 1/4 of the worlds population rely solely on the sea for food and a livelihood. This hypothetical food chain continues till it proves we religious science nut job global warming freaks:rolleyes: were right. Sucks, but it's true...

I dare you to raise the PH of your aquarium by adding CO2 and see how long your environment takes to "fix itself"...

Reduce, reuse, recycle... If that makes me a hippy then so be it

Someone will just need to invent a flying insect-like robot that flys around to flowers and pollinates them... Jon, are you going to be getting on this one?

If you build it they will come. Then they will take over the world and we are all DOOMED. The third movie in the series will be called "Rise of the iBees." They will pollinate you to death. It isn't pretty.

It seems that we as a species have been doomed from the beginning. Our ability to manipulate and alter the biosphere of our planet has never been matched. In a sense, we have "invented" our way to a path of oblivion. In a sense, we as a species are not "natural." By that, I mean the Earth simply cannot adjust to the rapid changes we cause. For instance, the dinosaurs did not slash and burn 10 to 100 acres of rain forest per day, or drain the Colorado River down to a trickle. There are still, literally, MILLIONS of people today, in the year 2009, who sincerely believe that the paw of an endangered Asian Sun Bear or Siberian Tiger will provide them with sexual potency. There are still MILLIONS of people on this planet who still cannot embrace the idea that the oceans are not "magically" replenished, even though the average size of each fish and of the total hauls of fish, are shrinking each year. Political points-of-view simply have nothing to do with the interpretation of the reams of data pointing to our effect on this environment. Anyone who knows me is aware that I am definitely not a hippie, just a realist.

Very well said. I am with you. I too am a realist, and at the same time an optimist. I think we can change what we do. We simply must. If we do not we will suffer the consequences as surely as our economy has suffered from people believing that they can buy a half a million dollar house with no money down and super low payments-forever. Tomorrow comes. We either plan or wake up on that day with surprises on our faces. Many years ago the Saudis built fresh water desalination plants. They realized they were living in a desert and would need lots of fresh water. Duh. Southern CA (also a desert) at this point in time should have several. I was in the Kern Valley all this week. The water table there is down 60% from normal. I drove literally for hours through fields growing food. No one wants to pay for a new aqueduct. It is a major problem that will not "replenish itself" if we do nothing. Doing nothing and ignoring the rapidly building mountain of scientific evidence about changes on our planet as a "hoax" will be our end.

Sucks. Just had a long long arguement with a friend about how global warming-climate change - call it what you want- according to him is a huge hoax. Guess I need to plan an Australian vacation and see it before it is gone.

I think we have the same friend...

Man, that sucks.... I was only able to snorkel the GBR...
I didnt have my scuba quals yet...(freakin awesome, reguardless!)
Jonathan- hurry up with that invention!
