Reef mat question

Hello everyone, and happy new year. I have a red sea reef mat on my 40-gallon tank, and I was wondering what a good daily average of use is and how to adjust it if necessary

can’t really adjust it. But it won’t use as much once the water in more clean.

My daily average is 11".
I use a baster to suck up detritus from around the tank and shoot it down the overflow. The reef mat does a good job at catching most of it. I'll manually advance the roll from time to time to prevent the detritus from overflowing into the sump. I'd probably average less per day if I didn't do this
