Reefapalooza

I’ll have a booth there so I’m certainly biased in some way but I enjoyed going even as a hobbyist.

At the very least it’s a very cool way to see a lot of corals and equipment in person all at once. Compared to some local coral prices I don’t think it’s always the best deals but it’s a convenient way to shop and see a lot of options.

It’s also fun to meet other hobbyists - highly recommend going with friends if possible or getting a small SD meetup for lunch or something.

Do you need anything? Corals easy, from pricey to cheap.
Equipment to purchase not so much. some stuff.
Meet the vendors and say hello. This is what I like to do.
You got to pay to get in and parking can be expensive. No really safe place to park for free, getting towed or a ticket is very possible.
I have gone for the last 15 years.
It always comes down to personnel choice.

I don't really need much currently still trying to set up my new tank before I go wild buying corals

You won't need to go wild if you mean spending a lot of money. I have been stocking a 75 gallon sps tank and been really surprised how easy it is to find "named" corals cheap on this forum along with frequent visits to Aquatic Warehouse looking for trade-ins. No need to buy $100 freshly cut 1" one tip frags that some try to sell.

I think if you have never been its worth a trip. I agree with others that it's pricey and a good selection. So whenever you find that the time is right make the trip. Pro tip: if you are looking for exceptional/truly rare stuff do the 3 vip day ticket go on Friday the pre show before the general public and take a stab at everything early. But IMO the best deals in most of SoCal can be found here.... as mitchb has said.
