If you're talking about taking the fish, don't. Besides permit issues it's just not cool. Depleting a (local) natural resource and no guarantee that he'll live going from an open reef to a small tank just isn't worth it, IMHO.

But here's more info on the Garibaldis anyway. I'm sure you can buy one from a store that was at least tank born and raised...:

thats a protected fish im pretty sure you can get in trouble for having it. if im not mistake its the state fish.
 
Garibaldi's are the state fish.... definitely a big no no if you are caught w a wild one. The sell them up at the wholesalers though - caught somewhere other than Cali. Expensive though! I see them in the same systems with all the other fish...so I assume they (or at least the ones they have up there) can tolerate warmer water. The local ones...who knows....

its the worst idea you can think of. especially putting it up on a public forum....

huge fine, possible jail time.
 
I seen them for sale in north cali a month ago, owner said they are a PITA cause they will kill anything they can in your tank... $1000 fine for wild caught !!!
